Post Lasik Surgery Complications

While most patients experience a notable improvement to their eyesight almost right away following their surgery, it can take several months for a patient's vision to stabilize. It is possible for patients to experience slight fluctuations in their vision as well. Over time, these symptoms usually diminish.
Many patients experience post operative dry eye as well. The degree to which patients experience dry eye can vary widely from mild to severe. Post lasik dry eye may be treated with drops and may quickly pass or the condition could linger and further, more extensive treatment may become necessary.
Some lasik patients notice diminished night vision. This can include as seeing starbursts, glares or halos at night. The severity of the symptoms can vary and they usually subside within a few weeks. Some patients may go through more prolonged bouts of poor night vision, however.
The benefits of lasik surgery are well publicized and often stated. Make sure, however, that you take the time to thoroughly discuss these and other possible complications such as over correction, under correction, dislocation of the lasik flap and infection with your doctor. Only after you have a balanced picture of the possible benefits and complications can you begin to assess whether lasik eye surgery is right for you.
