Anything that can caause you to not be able to have laser eye surgery?

Q. I've been thinking about laser eye surgery for a while now and am really curious whether there are conditions or just anything that could cause you to not be able to get it? My eye doctor appointment isn't for a while so I can't ask her just now.. My eyes have a prescription of +6.50 (left eye) and +5.00 (right eye) and my left eye is sort of like a lazy eye when it's unfocussed (only sometimes though)

A. +6.50 & +5.00 are not good candidates for lasik. lasik works *really* well on NEARSIGHTED patients. it does not work so well on farsighted patients.

i personally dont send farsighted patients for lasik *at all* anymore. burned too many times. my surgeon says he'll do them (he doesnt like it but he will) UP TO +4.00 and thats it. no +6.50's or +5.00's.

sorry. you may find someone who will do it, but if you were coming to my office, you would be told you're not a candidate

should i get lasik eye surgery to correct my nearsightedness?
Q. I have extremely poor vision, and can barely see things more than six inches from my eyes, yes six inches. Will lasik give me perfect vision or at least help better my vision.
Or should i get contacts? Do contacts get thicker the worse your eyes are?
Please help!

A. My mom had terrible vision. She was both nearsighted and had astigmatism. After her lasik surgery she can now see 20/20 without glasses/contacts. I am nearsighted like you and I am currently wearing contacts. After getting used to contacts they are really nice. I plan to get lasik surgery though because it will save me money in the long run not having to buy contacts/solution.

At what age can i get my laser eye surgery?
Q. I am currently 14, i want to know at what age can i get lasik. And what changes does it make to your eyes after the surgery? 10 points.

A. legally in the US: 18

but

a whole lot of nearsighted people are not done getting more nearsighted at age 18. a bunch of them are not stable enough for lasik until they're like 22

Good candidate for lasik eye surgery?
Q. I am nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other and I also have an astigmatism in one eye. Does anyone know if I'd be a good candidate for lasik eye surgery?

A. It depends on a lot of things such as stable prescription, pupil size, thickness of cornea, age, ect.
But, docs can do lasik even though you are farsighted in one eye and nearsighted in the other.
