Cost and effectiveness of laser eye surgery?

Q. What is the average cost of corrective laser eye surgery to correct nearsightedness? I heard that it doesn't completely correct your vision if your eyes are bad, how effective is it and how long do the effects last?

A. I don't know how much the cost of it is now, but when I got it I paid $2500. That was 4 years ago. It still works great. It is a wonderful investment because you would spend that much on contacts/glasses, eye appointments and misc. I don't regret it even though I have problems driving at night and have to wear sunglasses during the day. But I already have some problems with my eyes before the surgery. Search around in your local area. Make sure that you go to someone that offers lifetime warranty and make sure that the cost covers all of your expenses, including medication, post op appointments, and pre op appointments. I used TLC Laser Center. I've never been happier. Oh, and by the way--I have 20/10 vision in both eyes.

Will laser eye surgery correct an astigmatism?
Q. I have an astigmatism in my right eye, will laser eye surgery correct this?

A. Laser vision correction is able to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism. So, yes.

EDIT: The correct way to state your question would be as follows: Will laser eye surgery correct astigmatism. There should not be "an" before astigmatism. That is because astigmatism is not a thing, it is a condition. Similarly you would not say "I have A diabetes." You would say "I have diabetes" because diabetes is a condition not a thing.

Can LASIK eye surgery improve your eyesight to a certain percentage?
Q. I don't know if my perscription is too high to get LASIK eye surgery and end with 20/20 vision but can lasik improve my eye sight to a certain percentage so I won't have to pay full price? Also, will I have to bring both my contacts and glasses perscription with me to the consultation?

A. If your vision is so bad that they can't completely fix it using lasik, (they can usually do up to around -8 -10 or so, depends on how thick your corneas are). Paying all that money and still wearing glasses (although thinner ones) afterwards doesn't sound like a wise investment to me. I believe there are other eye treatments capable of correcting higher degrees of nearsightedness available that are worth checking out first. It couldn't hurt to bring the prescriptions, as that way, they will have an idea of what they are up against. If you decide to go ahead with the procedure they will do their own quite thorough scrutiny of your eyes beforehand.

What happens in your eye when the doctor requires you to wear eyeglasses?
Q. What actually happens? is the lens in your eye misplaced thats why you have a blurry vision?
or considered near sighted?

I heard that laser eye surgery is the solution, so what does laser eye surgery do?

A. all good questions.

"What actually happens? is the lens in your eye misplaced thats why you have a blurry vision?"

no. in the case of nearsightedness its either b/c:

a) your eye is too long (axial length...front to back)

or

b) your cornea is too steep (too curved)

or a combo of those. its mostly genetic.

"I heard that laser eye surgery is the solution, so what does laser eye surgery do?"

makes your cornea *thinner*, which reduces its refractive power
