How much does it cost for laser surgery?
Q. has anyone had lasik eye surgery performed? how much does it cost nowadays?
A. Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Has anyone had the eye surgery to take out floaters and afterwards your vision is distorted & lite sensitive?
Q. I need to know if someone has had distorted vision and/or light really hurting your eyes after the surgery. If you have, what is it called and can an eye doctor fix it? I can't work, because I can't see. The eye doctors say they can't find anything in my eyes that are causing it? It seems doctors stick together on these things. Please help. Thank you
I am very nearsighted, legally blind, i had the surgery to take out the floaters. Now my vision is distorted, like looking in a funhouse mirror, plus my eyes are so sensitive to light that I need to wear sunglasses. But they cut down my vision, so I can't do that. I'm 47 and a single mom. I can't work. It's awful. Has anyone had any bad results from the surgery that removes the floaters?

A. Vitrectomy for floaters would normally only be done if they are very severe as there is an inherent risk, though with a low percentage incidence, of both retinal detachment and macular problems as a consequence.
That the risk was low is little comfort if it occurs in your particular case.
It's impossible to say without examination, but it sounds as if you may have had a reactive macular oedema after the operation, which could well leave the vision "jazzy" even with best glasses. *If* that's what it is, sometimes that self-resolves after a few months, rarely laser therapy can help, often there is no active treatment.
If dark glasses help, but sunglasses are too dark, glasses can be made with *any* depth of tint.
Assessing both of these will need an eye doctor you can trust.

What is the difference between an Ophthalmologist and an Optometrist?
Q. Yeah both mean an eye doctor but what is the difference between the two?
A. Both can be called doctors, but the real MD is the opthalmologist. He or she went to a med school, went through residency, etc. and is certified to treat diseases/conditions, do surgery.... An optometrist went to an optomety school and he's the one that checks for vision problems and he/she is the one to go to for contacts or glasses. Both take around 8 years of school, but an MD also has their residency, which is an extra 3 years or so. They require alot of the same classes though, but I'm guessing med school is harder.
What happens when you get lasik eye surgery?
Q. Like what do they do? Do they put a lazer up to your eye or what? What happens if you blink during the process? What if you move your head? I need answers!
A. Hi- I had lasik eye surgery a little over a year ago. It is impossible to blink during the procedure because an instrument called an eye speculum is placed in your eye lids to hold it open. This sounds uncomfortable, but I didn't find it painful or anything. The laser is above you, but not right in your face. When I had my surgery I was on a table that they moved electronically to perfectly align my head with the laser. They will not "zap" your eyes until everything is perfectly lined up. Also, when I had the surgery I was given 2 ibuprofen and a Valium before the procedure started, as well as some numbing eye drops. The whole surgery for both eyes lasted for only about 10 minutues- it was a breeze!! I would encourage you to go to an eye doctor that performs the surgery- a lot of them have free initial appointments where they could tell you if you are a candidate and describe how they perform the procedure, as well as answer all your questions. I have no regrets about having it done and would do it again in a heartbeat! As a side note, a lot of people ask me how much it cost- I live in upstate New York and I paid $4,000 for both eyes (the cost included any additional procedures if I didn't get to 20/20 the first time, which I did!)
