How long is the Lasik surgery good for after it's done?

Q. Lasik eye surgery.

A. It should be for life. You do have to look at your eyesight for the past 5-6 years. If it has concistantly gotten worse, and you have been good at wearing glasses (not contact lenses), then you can get the surgery done, but you will probably have to wear glasses again when your eyesight gets worse again. Contact lenses are unreliable predictor of this because your eyes will now have access to air, unlike they were w/ contacts, which will slow the degenerate process.

If you have been fairly consistant for 5 years, then you probalby will not have to ever get the surgery again. I got mine done from Dr. Rahamni in Brownstown MI (he did one of the Detroit Pistons also). He has a lifetime care package with all his surgerys. If you ever need surgery again, it is covered no matter what, no cost to you.

I had mine done almost 7 years ago now, when I was 21. I still have perfict vision. My father got it done the same day with me and he still has perfict vision. I was a -4.5 while my father was a -8.5!

Can you have LASIK eye surgery and still be a Special Tactics Officer in the Air Force?
Q. I read up on requirements and it said No radial Keraotomy or something to that affect i looked up what that was and it is laser eye surgery. However I proceded to look up LASIK eye surgery which is now much more common and it is not The same as Radial Keraotomy (miss spelling, I know, sorry.) its a different kind of surgery so I don't no. Help please :)

A. Jeeper, your advice if someone took it could disqualify them for Air Force SOF service. You should do more research or cease answering questions like this if you aren't interested in providing accurate information.

LASIK will disqualify you for Military Free Fall. If you can't attend MFF, you can't be an STO, CRO, PJ or CCT. It's a requirement for all of those jobs.

PRK and LASEK are your only two options if you wish to serve in Air Force SOF.

We've had better results with PRK and the waiver process is getting faster. For those already on active duty, it's only a 6 month wait now. For those that have the surgery done as civilians, it is still 1 year but if someone really pushes for the waiver, it can be a bit less.

LASEK is a year regardless, active duty or civilian.

Go over to www.specialtactics.com. The policies are posted on the site, it's also the only source you should reference when seeking information about USAF Special Operations.

can you enlist in the coast guard if you had lasik eye surgery?
Q. I had lasik eye surgery 3 years ago. i was going in the army reserves and i got a waiver for the lasik. will that waiver be good for the coast guard too or will i have to get another waiver?

A. You will need a new waiver. Despite the fact that we are all armed forces, the recruiting process is independent. What one department chooses to waive another may not. The Coast Guard does not grant as many waivers as the other services as our numbers are easier to meet without them. Talk to a recruiter.
