Lasik Eye Surgery...............................?

Q. hi there,

I'm just wondering about Lasik Eye Surgery. I really hate wearing my glasses/contacts and would love to just be able to see without them again!

Does it hurt at all? Does it take long to recover?
Do you actually SEE what is happening while it's taking place since your eyes are kept open?
Would you recommend it?

Any more details about it would be appreciated as well.

I had LASIK over 10 years ago when I was 25ish. It was without a doubt the best thing i've ever spent money on. No it doesn't hurt. It's just a bit scary, which is all in your head. (they give you an anti-anxiety pill beforehand anyway). Yes you can see the laser, it looks like you're at the bottom of a swimming pool and you can see something touch the top of the water surface. Surreal!

It takes 2 days to recover? and then eye drops for a number of weeks, no biggie for someone who wears contacts!

Waking up in the middle of the night and being able to see is THE big reward.

You will not regret it, you won't regret the money you spent either.

I had Lasik about two years ago. It cost me about $3000 (including a lifetime guarantee) and I was able to make payments of about $300 a month.

I am very pleased with it and have not had any problems at all.

As with any procedure there are many possible complications. However, I know a handful of people who have had it done and have been very pleased as well. If you are considering it I would say make sure you do research first and choose the best place to have it done.

You will have slight discomfort the first day but the rocovery time is only a few days.

my eyes are so bad and i get so frustrated always having to put contacts in to see in the shower, or put glasses on just to be able to find the bathroom in the middle of the night...

i'm such a baby, how bad does it really hurt? is it worth it? anyone have this done?
Also : i have a severe astigmatism... are they even able to perform surgery on that?

My husband has lasik done while we were engaged, it doesn't hurt and it did wonders for his eyes.
I watched the whole procedure and he couldn't feel anything and it was really neat to see it done.
He had severe astigmatism and his eyes are shaped like pointy footballs and not rounded. The doctor told him before he got the surgery that he was probably the WORST case he's scene come in for surgery in regards to astigmatism and the shape of his eyes- however, he was confident that he could work wonders.
Before he had lasik I could read about 12 lines beneath what he could on those eye charts (I have better than 20/20 vision) and after he had surgery I could only read two lines below him. Talk about a difference!! He has never looked back and I am glad to see him happy and able to 'see' things clearly for the first time since he was a little boy.
He also didn't care for contacts and couldn't wear them, I would go back through it all over again and I know he would too. He has 20/20 vision now and doesn't have to wear glasses, contacts and can see just fine like anyone who has naturally good vision. If our son gets his vision and not mine, we will be happy to get him lasik done too when he's old enough.
We highly recommend it to anyone we've ever met that is considering it, it was one of the best decisions we've made and I know he's thrilled to not wonder 'where are my glasses' or have them fog up when he leaves the house.

One common risk of LASIK eye surgery is that any dry eye condition that is experienced right after surgery may hamper the healing process.

does it restore your vision the way you had it when you were born?

I personally had lasik done in december2007 and it was the best decision I have ever made.. I never really had good vision and I had tons of astigmatism. I called the Lasik Vision Institute in Columbus, Ohio and set up a free evaluation they had me watch two different informational videos.. at first I thought oh god... but they were only about 5 min long and very informational needless to say I didnt really have many questions after the video.. They took a look at my eyes and determined I was a great candidate for Lasik. They offered several payment plans and were having a sale. I ended up paying cash it was $2300 total and that was for custom lasik( places who offer 250.00 per eye are not doing customized lasik) I ended up getting it done a few weeks later... you are not allowed to wear contacts for 2 weeks prior to surgery.. i didnt own glasses and i needed to see so i bought some. The procedure itself took maybe 15 minutes it was painless... they told me to go home and sleep for 2-3 hours... which was hard to do because I was so excited to see if it worked... my eyes were a little sensitive to light that evening but the next morning 8am when i went in for my post-op exam I had 20/20 vision.. and i still do (still get eye exams every year because i paid 300 for a lifetime warranty.. if my eyes "reverse" they will do procedure again for free. Most places dont do this for people under 18... just call for a free evaluation and see if you are a good candidate.. then they will discuss pricing with you. good luck.. this is a very good investment if they are a good candidate!!

Does lasik eye surgery hurt?

Q. I was watching a video on lasik eye surgery and it looks SO painful. The eye was bleeding a bit and the patient is awake the entire time. Has anyone here got this surgery done before? And is it painful to keep to keep your eyes open and for things to be pressing against and touching your eyes?
I'm planning to get this done in the future because the vision in my left eye isn't that wel.

I had lasik last summer and an enhancement to my right eye in December. Neither one of the surgeries hurt. All that happen to me was I had a lot of bruising on my actually eye balls and I slept the whole day after the surgery. Besides that there was virtually no pain and I like the results. The only complaint I have with the eye surgery is that now my eyes are really dry. They are so dry that my eye doctor had to put plugs in the tear duct and recommend I put eye drops four times a day but he prefers that I put them on every hour.

I guess not, because as far as I know, laser eye surgery procedure is painless. Your eyes are numbed with anesthetic eye drops prior to the surgery and no general anesthetic is necessary. Some patients may feel a little pressure on the eye during the LASIK surgery when the corneal flap is being created but this is only mild. After PRK surgery, some patients may experience a âsandyâ feeling in their eyes for a few days. Some patients may also experience sensitivity to light and their eyes may water for a day or two after laser eye surgery. However, on the whole, in terms of pain, laser eye surgery is a mild procedure and one from which patients recover quickly.

My eyes do not feel to dry when I wear my glasses. However I have a problem with wearing contacts because they dry my eyes out. I know having lasik will make them more dry at first but will they return to normal? I would like to hear someones positive experience, as I have already read the nightmare stories. And will the precedure hurt?

Some patients experience infections, inflammation of the eye, redness, blurriness or eye irritation. In many cases, LASIK eye surgery can eliminate your need for corrective lenses, but that's not always the result. Sometimes, LASIK will drastically reduce your dependence on corrective lenses, but you may still require corrective lenses for some activities, such as reading. LASIK should last your whole life. if you would ever need an enhancement you could get one done. I had mine done at TLC Vision and I can go in if I ever need an enhancement done and they would do it for free (it all depends on who you get to do the surgery).

No hurt at all after I had it, they give you drops to put in your eyes and eye guards for at night so you don't scratch or rub them.

I could see as soon as I sat up on the operating table. They had me read the clock on the wall.

I would recommend this for anyone.

i am 22, and have been wearing glasses since i was 8. however, my eyes haven't changed much in the past few years, so my eyesight will be stabilizing soon. i would like to get lasik eye surgery eventually, and i wanted to know what it feels like. my dad had it done 10 years ago and he said that it felt like someone had put out cigars on his eyeballs.... but it's been 10 years, technology has become more advanced, so i'd like to know how it would feel.

i do have a pretty good pain tolerance, but i can handle pain better when i know what to expect.

Hi. I had it done a couple of years ago. I think everyone feels something different. A lady I chatted to in the waiting room felt nothing, I could feel the cold air of the suction cup coming down to hold the eye before cutting the flap and afterwards I felt the surgeon 'smoothing' the top of the eye down. It did not hurt. I was more nervous than anything. You can see all sorts of strange lights while it's going on, too. Recovery took longer than I expected. It was fairly uncomfortable for the rest of the day but improved by the hour. Getting the drops in at first was tricky - but it was worth it. By tea time I could see the TV! What is the procedure of Lasik surgery like?

Q. Is the procedure of Lasik surgery painful?
I'm 18 years old and I recently asked my dad for contacts, which he said yes to. But he gave me the suggestion on getting Lasik surgery. It has been a week now and he is strongly suggesting to get the surgery.

I'm afraid of pain and I really hate the idea of doing the surgery. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what it's like during the procedure and after. Thank you.

A. I had lasik back in April. It didn't hurt at all. Afterwards, all I had was a little dryness, maybe a little burning, but nothing that I would even consider uncomfortable. All of this went away in just a few days, and they give you drops that completely ease this. All I can say is that it was the best thing that I have done in a long time. Waking up the next morning and being able to see things clearly, there is nothing like that.

One thing that I did do was research the doctors in my area. I ended up paying almost $4000 for my surgery, but I got the best. (your eyes are nothing to skimp on).
There are some downsides to consider. 1) It is sort of a trade off. You get nice clear distant vision, but as you age, your reading vision will decline. At around 40 (average) you will need reading glasses at about the same strength of your current distant vision. On the other hand, everybody loses reading vision as they age anyway. I figure. I would have ended up needing reading glasses when I get old anyway, plus I much prefer only wearing glasses for reading as opposed to all the time for the rest of my life. Also, I am 37 now, and my reading vision is perfect so far.
2) You may hear some people say that you will see a halo around lights after the surgery, but this is temperary, and is mostly just around LED lights, and it never bothered me much.
A doctor will map your eye so that the best outcome is achieved. So as long as you find a good doctor, you will be fine.

The actual procedure takes about 10 min. total. They lay you down under the machine, numb your eyes with drops. Then, they place a thing around your eye to hold the lid open (doesn't hurt, just a little pressure) then they will tell you to look at a light and the laser cuts the flap. The doctor folds the flap back, and for a second your vision goes blurry. Then the laser zaps off the correct amount of your cornia in the exact spots that your eye map dictates. Then the dr. folds the flap back down and then he will use a surgical wipe to wipe down the flap on your eye. You will see all of this, but all you will feel is wetness from the solution. Then, he swings you around under the other side of the machine, and does everything on the other eye. Plus, you will feel totally relaxed, because they give you a valium before starting.

A. I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended.
