Lasik Question, anyone help??

I am considering lasik right now. could i do one eye first to see if any problems? Do you guys think that i still could have a good eyesight if another eye of my had sight problem after lasik? when i was child, my left eye was nearsight and right eye was good sight, so i could see cleary without glasses. therefore, I guess if i did one eye, even if it created problem after lasik, i still have another good eye to back up that i will not had bad sight after unsuccessful surgery. Guys, could you give any advise? i appreciate all your help.

I think the best thing is to consult with your doctor. You will not be quickly get approved to perform eye lasik surgery, there is pre-requirement test before performing eye lasik surgery.

there must be a reason to ask this, and Lasik probably is not the answer....surgeons will NEVER do lasik on a minor, simply because their eyes are still changing and the cornea is not fully developed yet. if the reason you are interested is for an eyeturn, or lazy eye, there are other surgeries that will help for this, just not lasik. If you are simply interested in the procedure because your child wont wear glasses or keeps breaking them, then doctors will do contact lenses in some some special cases for children under 10....I personally have a 5 year old patient who we taught the parents to insert and remove the contact lenses for the child, it was a special needs patient, but it is possible....hope this helps!

Are You a Good Candidate for Lasik?
Lasik is not for everyone.

You should be at least 18 years old (21 for some lasers), since the vision of people younger than 18 usually continues to change.
You should not be pregnant or nursing as these conditions might change the measured refraction of the eye.
You should not be taking certain prescription drugs, such as Accutane or oral prednisone.
Your eyes must be healthy and your prescription stable. If you're myopic, you should postpone Lasik until your refraction has stabilized, as myopia may continue to increase in some patients until their mid- to late 20s.
You should be in good general health. Lasik may not be recommended for patients with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, glaucoma, herpes infections of the eye, or cataracts. You should discuss this with your surgeon.
Weigh the risks and rewards. If you're happy wearing contacts or glasses, you may want to forego the surgery.
Understand your expectations from the surgery. Are they realistic?
Ask your doctor if you're a candidate for monovision â correcting one eye for distance vision and the other eye for near vision. Lasik cannot correct presbyopia so that one eye can see at both distance and near. However, Lasik can be used to correct one eye for distance and the other for near. If you can adjust to this correction, it may eliminate or reduce your need for reading glasses. In some instances, surgery on only one eye is required. If your doctor thinks you're a candidate, ask about the pros and cons.

Im planning on having lasik eye surgery because my eyes cant see far away very well. If I decide on having a child in about a year after the surgery will his/ her eye sight be as bad as mine was or will it be good. If this helps my husband has decent eyesight ( doesnt wear glasses).

The eyesight trait and be inhearted from either the mother or father, that is just randomly based on genes and probability, however. Getting your eyesight fixed with lasik WILL NOT change the genes in your DNA that would give your child bad eyesight. Again, it is random but your child does still have a chance of getting bad eyesight from you.

Hi eveyone, I have a question I need an answer for. My question is, can LASIK eye surgery improve your vision if you've watched too much tv or played too much video games? I, unfortunately, am near sighted because ever since I was a child I was addicted to video games and watching tv. Now I have to constantly be on the computer because I either am doing homework or it is work related. I am really afraid that my vision will get worse and I will eventually go blind. Does anyone know if LASIK eye surgery restore my vision? If it can't does anyone know of a medical process that can? Any help is much appericiated!

P.S
I don't want people saying things like, "Oh you need to get off the computer and blah blah blah." I am looking for any kind of medical procedures or professional help I can get. Again, any help is welcomed!

LASIK could certainly help improve your nearsightedness. As long as you are over 18 and in good health with stable eye sight, you might want to consider it. Talk to your eye doctor about your concerns and ask more about LASIK. You won't go blind from being nearsighted, but if you want improved vision, LASIK is a great way to go.

Color blindness is a genetic condition. Your children might get it, but if you don't already have it you won't get it from lasik.

It depends on your insurance. You can call the provider or most providers have a website that tells you what they cover. Most will help with or completely cover contacts. Generally insurance won't cover Lasik if you're a minor and most doctors won't do Lasik until either your growth plates in your hands have sealed (indicating biological adulthood) or you have 3 consecutive annual eye exams in which your vision does not change.

If your vision is still changing there's no point in getting Lasik because it will continue to change pretty much until it just doesn't change anymore (usually this happens once you reach adulthood if your vision problems began as a child).

Q. Like what do they do? Do they put a lazer up to your eye or what? What happens if you blink during the process? What if you move your head? I need answers!

A. I had Lasik 5 yrs ago. They put numbing drops in your eye first, then when they are working you lay down under the laser machine and they place a clamp on you eye to keep it open, it looks like a reverse eye lash curler. Then the Dr. cuts a flap on the cornea and lays it back, next he tells you to look at the red blinking light- this is when the laser starts its job and makes small incisions to let more refractive light into your eye. It takes from 30-60 seconds depending on your correction. Last the Dr. replaces the flap, queeges the flap flat so it reattaches, and WHOLA, you have 20/20. I did have to go back a year later because one eye needed a enhancement.
After care you go home sleep for 4 hrs, they want your eyes closed to start to heal. you wear protective shields in the shower and when you sleep for 10 days. Eye drops and lubrication daily for a couple of weeks. It was the best money I ever spent. Had glasses from child hood.
