My mom watched Final Destination 5 and now she doesn't want to get LASIK even when she's already paid for it, I've told her that the doctor (whom I work with) won't give her a full refund but she still wants to cancel. So....I need info on whether or not an eye surgery laser could cut a person, or burn their eye out.

Final Destination 5 did for LASIK what the movie, Jaws, did for swimming in the ocean.
There is no truth at all to that made up scene. It is just meant to appeal to peoples primal fears of something hurting their vision.
Not all LASIK gets perfect results, but to my knowledge, no one's life has ever been threatened by it.
It cannot burn your eye out.

It is possible to become a military pilot if I have eye surgery?

I have done a research but still I am not sure that candidates who have eye surgery are allowed to be military pilots. I do not want to be a pilot of fighter but an aviator of military-transport aircraft. I don't know requirements for military-transport aircraft aviators. If you know any information about requirements, please, write me an answer.
A little bit about my health:
I have myopia(-3.5 diopters) and, may be, astigmatism(I am not sure). Except my vision problems, I have perfect health.
And about me:
I am 15 years old.
P.S. I actually want to be a commercial aviation pilot, but I will need to join Air Force. Civilian way to implement my dream is too expensive for my parents.

Glad to hear you want to become a military pilot. I'm an Air Force and civilian pilot who had to get an eye waiver to fly because of my astigmatism. First off, you are not qualified to fly after having eye surgery without a waiver. That being said waivers are very common for those who have had both LASIK and PRK. Each person has to be reviewed individually, but many of my fellow pilot buddies have had either LASIK or PRK. I didn't even have to get the surgery because I qualified for a waiver as long as I wear glasses. The regulation the covers all AF medical requirements is AFI-48-123 which you can get at http://www.e-publishing.af.mil/shared/media/epubs/AFI48-123.pdf

Don't get your eye surgery now though. The AF prefers that you get it while your in college or at the AF Academy. That way they can approve everything ahead of time so the waiver is a breeze.

Has lasik eye surgery worked for you or would you recommend it?

I'm thinking of getting it when I turn 21 but I'm not sure. What do you think of it? Does it work? I know there are a lot of websites with this info but I want your opinion. Also what are some alternatives for paying for it since most insurance companies don't offer it?

I'm one of the 3% who aren't happy with it.

In my case, I think they cut a divit across the surface which can't be corrected (though I haven't checked in the last few years). This means that my eye sight is UNCORRECTABLE at around 20/60. Certainly a hell of a lot better than it was, but still not crisp. I miss having crisp vision (even if it did take glasses).

If I were you, I don't think I would use me as a huge reason not to do it:

1: I did it very early on when it was "bleeding edge" technology. In particular, they didn't have Wavefront technology for really clearly mapping the eye before they operate.

2: I had a horrible prescription to start with. I think now-a-days, they don't even offer Lasik as an option to people whose prescription is as bad as mine.

Never-the-less, it is a surgical procedure and surgical procedures do have risks. I think most of the "3 percenters" complain about poor night vision (the so called "rainy windshield" effect), but some have actually completely lost the vision in one or even both eyes.

But 97% are thrilled with it. Those are pretty good odds!

It will help you too, but make sure you get the right doctor for the procedure. After the surgery, one feels mild discomfort or pain for a couple of days. The procedure itself is not painful because they give you anaesthetic drops to numb the eye. For the first week, one may have sensitivity to light as blurry vision and dry eyes. All these side effects disappear within a few days and. The process is simple, safe and fast. They are making big improvements in this field, so it's probably worth it if you can afford it and don't need to use your eyes for a few days

I am getting Lasik surgery tomorrow. Can I go on a discovery flight before hand?

Q. I am having Lasik surgery tomorrow at 4 pm. I want to go on a discovery flight in a Cessna 172 at 8 am, so eight hours before surgery- will any of the g-forces or any other parts of the flight strain my eyes too much before surgery?
