But, you are not a good candidate for Lasik surgery if you want to join golden gloves
High trauma risk patients such as boxer, wrestler, martial arts enthusiasts, rugby players and other who engage in activities with a high likelihood of ocular trauma may not be right for LASIK eye surgery. Because a flap can be dislodged or damaged even years after surgery if the eye is exposed to extreme trauma.

A. Many people consider "eye exercises", "preventing near work" and eating "fruits and vegetables" can contribute to make your vision better. But there is no such evidence for this. These are considered as myths.
EYE EXERCISES
For eye exercises, of course, have their proper place in medicine. In The Well-Informed Patients Guide to Cataract and Other Eye Surgery, Dr. Mark Speaker of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Karyn Fieden said these may help those with strabismus or cross-eyes. Dr. Peter Gott writing in Better Health & Diet published by the World Almanac, said exercises may be useful if poor vision is caused by a weakness or imbalance of the eye muscles.
But in most cases, the problem is due to abnormalities of the eye itself. This is common in eye disorders like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Eye exercises are useless here as well as in glaucoma and cataracts which are not caused by stress but other factors.
"The only thing the exercises can do is delay proper medical or surgical treatment and result in permanent impairment of vision. All reputable eye doctors caution patients against looking directly into the sun. Such a practice can cause permanent damage to the macula, the most sensitive and important area of the retina," Worrall and Nevyas warned.
Bates died in 1931 but his theories flourished. They were promoted by his second wife Emily and Dr. Harold M. Peppard. His book was reissued in 1940 as Better Eyesight Without Glasses and remains in print. Although some of Bates blunders were removed from subsequent editions, much of what the book espouses is nonsensical and has long been discredited by doctors.
"Throw away your glasses! became the rallying cry of an international movement in the 30s and 40s. Thousands of people sincerely believed the Bates exercises had cured them. Unfortunately, medical tests did not bear this out.
NEAR WORKS
Constantly involved in near work such as reading, writing, watching tv and computer usage and playing handheld games for long durations may harm your vision. But this may only contribute a "little" We can say that this can only contribute about 1-5 %.
The major cause of having your eyes to have bad vision is hereditary.
Its not really that bad to watch TV for a long time.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Simple explanation, the changing of shape of the eye ball cannot be corrected by these, contrary to the belief that carrots can.
Lasik is the only option for vision defects.

Can Lasik fix my nearsighted vision?
Q. Also, I heard that if you get Lasik, you one have to get every five years or so and that once you hit a certain age (average age not one particle age) you have to wear reading glasses.
Any problems after having it done? Also, can someone give me some good docters in the Triangle area of NC?

A. There are many ophthalmologists in the New York City area who preform Lasik surgery. I would advise you to call New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for a referral and/or check out there website. http://www.nyee.edu/ - NYEE is one of the top eye hospitals in the country according to U.S. News Health. Be sure to pick a Lasik surgeon who has lots of experience preforming these procedures.
LASIK or Refractive Vision Correction surgery is laser surgery that can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Prior to committing to this surgery, you must do your homework, research the procedure(s) thoroughly, so you will be able to prepare a list of questions to ask your lasik surgeon. LASIK is considered cosmetic surgery, is not covered by health insurance and can be quite expensive. Lasik is irreversible.
Anyone commiting to Lasik surgery must be willing to incur the occasional long-term risks and side effects associated with this surgery. Although LASIK has helped many people, it has also been very detrimental to others even causing permanent blindness and a severe decrease in quality of life..

lasik eye surgery in New York ?
Q. does anyone know of a good doctor to perform the lasik eye surgery in new york. and what the price range is? thanks
A. I got Lasik correction last spring and have not had any problems. It took me a long time to get up the nerves to get the surgery done though, now I am glad I did. I spent hours at the clinic inquiring about how the procedures work (Lasik vs PRK) and how it would affect me. My Arkansas eye doctor was very comforting. Try visiting your local New York laser vision center and make an appointment for a free consultation. http://www.locallaservisioncenters.com/New-York-Laser-Vision-Correction.html
