What is the most common prescription for a myopic ( near-sighted)?

Q. I'm 16 and my prescription is -15.25. I thought many kids had it as bad as I do until my friend still my glasses today and put them on and got a really bad headache... Is -15.25 bad? What's your prescription? Will I be blind by 30?

A. -15.25 is a VERY high prescription

It means that you can only see 6cm from your face!

Most myopes are from -0.25 to -6.00, anything over this is considered to be high.

I assume you have thin lenses and you should know that there are other options to consider:

1. Switch to contact lenses (you'll probably need rigid lenses)
2. Consider laser surgery (LASEK, not LASIK)
3. Have a clear lens extraction i.e. have the lens of your eye removed. You'll need part time but very weak glasses for distance and glasses for all of your near work. At age 16, this is a very drastic option and I give it to you so you know it exists, but really you would have to be desperate to have this done.
4. Get the thinnest lenses possible, I guess you've already done this.

Will you be blind by 30? It's unlikely

How can you heal myopia or nearsightedness?
Q. How can you naturally heal nearsightedness?

A. There is no actual way to cure myopia naturally!
There are different ways to correct it though. Obviously you can use corrective lenses (contacts or glasses) Or some type of laser surgery. Although laser eye surgery is not suited for everyone and there are risks and possible serious complications!
Also if you have myopia under -6.00 you could try othro k!
Ortho K is when you wear special contact lenses while you sleep to reshape your cornea so during the day without wearing the lenses you will be able to see. However the effects are temporary and you must continue to wear the lenses at night to keep the desired effect. The good thing it is reversible if you are not satisfied and there are way less side effects then laser eye surgery.
Eye exercises do not actually work at all! Talk to your eye doctor about it!

Oh ya I just wanted to add pinhole glasses only work while you are wearing them ( and they look ridiculous) and there is no actual foods that improve eyesight.... just eat healthy to help help prevent eye disease

How should I strengthen my eyesight?
Q. I have had glasses for 5 years (I am 14). My right eye was 1.70 when I first got my glasses and now it is 2.50. My right eye was 1.75 and now it is 5.0. I am scared that I am going to get blind...does anyone have any eye exercises or tips???

A. I'm afraid you cannot strengthen your eyesight hun, you can only do your best to maintain it by eating the right vitamins that are good for your eyes, and making sure you look after them as best as you can.
The only way to solve poor eyesight is through laser eye surgery, but you are too young and it has risks involved.

My eye sight is poor:
-6.50 left eye
-6.00 right eye

I'm always worried that I am going blind but my optician has reassured me that I am not. I wear contact lenses now and am hoping to get laser eye surgery once I believe it is really safe.

Look after yourself and don't worry, it's unlikely you're going blind :)

Assistance on Laser Eye Surgery?
Q. I am 20 years old and near visioned. My prescription is very close to -8.0 and i am considered legally blind. Does anyone know what I can do concerning laser eye surgery? I am currently wearing myopia control hard contacts to stabilize my vision. I want to rid myself of contacts and glasses. I could use some helpful advice and suggestions on what I can do.

Ps. I was born with bad vision, its not by watching too much tv.

A. Lasik eye surgery is limited in the amount of vision it can correct. The FDA limit who can not undergo the Lasik eye surgery according to the severity of their myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

More than 14.00 Diopter of Myopia
More than + 6.00 Diopter of Hyperopia
More than 6.00 Diopter of Astigmatism

Myopia : Of all myopic people, about 90% have corrections less than -6.00 diopters. The classifications of severity for myopia

Mild Myopia : < 3.00 diopters
Moderate Myopia : 3.00 to 6.00 diopters
High Myopia : 6.00 to 9.00 diopters
Extreme Myopia : > 9.00 diopters

Astigmatism : Of all myopic people, 50% or more have astigmatism as well, most of these people have corrections of less than 1 diopter. The classifications of severity for astigmatism

Mild Astigmatism : <1.00 diopters
Moderate Astigmatism : 1.00 to 2.00 diopters
High Astigmatism : 2.00 to 4.00 diopters
Extreme Astigmatism : < 4.00 diopters
