How old should you be to get Lasik Eye surgery done?

Q. I am 20 years old. I've had glasses since i was about 16 or 17. I am seriously looking into Lasik eye surgery because i hate wearing my glasses ( i am near sighted)

Recently it seems as though my eyes have gotten worse. My glasses work fine when i have them on, but i've been noticing that when i dont wear them, its getting harder & harder to see things i once could.

Question is, how old are you supposed to be to get this done? If i get it done now, and say a year or two down the road it starts getting worse again do they do 'free touch ups?'

Also, if anyone knows, how does sitting in front of a computer affect your eyes? I'm a writer, so i spend plenty of time in front of the screen.

Thanks!
Also, how do i find a Lasik eye specialist near me..and how do i know they are legit & safe?

A. well i will tell you that my wife had this done last year. she was 20 years old. i have also had this done(i was 23). we see great and have for the last year even while out in iraq. we are both military and had it done for free. what im really posting about is to tell you the you should look more into P.R.K. than lasik. its was safer, less time, and less problems down the road. as far as where to get it done just start calling around.

Now that laser eye surgery exists, will opticians eventually be out of a job?
Q. In the future most people will probably have laser eye surgery instead of wearing glasses, so does that mean an end to opticians?

A. No. I know for a fact I will never get Laser Eye surgery.

Can a beautician deduct the cost of Lasik eye surgery as business expense if it is business related?
Q. If a beautician wants to have the Lasik eye surgery done because the steamer always blurs her glass. Can she deduct the cost as business expense instead of medical expense since it is work related? Thanks.

A. Does not sound like the Lasik eye surgery would be a ordinary and necessary expense of the business operation.
A deduction is allowed only for expenses primarily paid for the prevention or alleviation of a physical or mental defect or illness. Medical care expenses include payments for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or treatment affecting any structure or function of the body. The cost of drugs is deductible only for drugs that require a prescription, except for insulin.
You may deduct only the amount by which your total medical care expenses for the year exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. You do this calculation on Form 1040 Schedule A in computing the amount deductible.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful and good luck

Does having laser eye surgery give any long term or short term side effects?
Q. I want to have laser eye surgery, but i found out from a friend that you could have a layer of your eye tear away and you'll be left with nothing but excruciatingly blurry vision. Is this true? I was planning on joining the Marine Corps without glasses or contacts. If there are any other side effects please don't forget to mention them, thank you!

A. First go to your regular eye specialist for advice. I had my first left eye laser 12 years ago, I felt good without even the right eye off contact lens. 6 years ago, had my right eye done with the laser surgery, as I have the experience already with my left eye with regular checks by my eye doctor. I am very happy with the laser surgery, now that I can go without glasses, and my eyesight has been corrected without difficulty in reading small article prints. Before you go for the laser eye surgery, please put off your contact lens for a couple of months to stabilise your eye. My experience that I went off contact lens only 1 day before my right surgery, my nerves were not stabilised yet, there was a little bleeding.
Anyway, the surgery was good. I am happy that I have done the laser eye surgery, as I am free without glasses with no difficulty in reading and driving at night In my family, my elder sister, 2 nieces have also done with laser eye surgery. Nowadays, cataracts and a minute-dot hole, are all done by laser surgery, I had one such surgery with a tiny hole on my right eye. After surgery, always have regular check-up. Anyway, get advice and check whether you are eligible for the surgery as some are not.
