can i get eye surgery to become a military pilot?

Q. i wish to become a helicopter/fixed wing pilot/navigator.

1) is it true that any kind of corrective eye surgery disqualifies you? even for US Army helicopter pilot?

2) which one would be a better choice? rotary wing or fixed wing?

3) whats the process to becoming a flight officer? i want to go through the ROTC program during college

thank you for all answers!
which service should i fly with if i could choose?

A. 1. That is not true. You are not disqualified, it is waiverable.

2. For Army Aviation, you must first complete rotary wing training & based on needs of the Army, MAY get fixed wing transition. THIS IS RARE. Most apply for fixed wing transition later on in their flying career.

3. ROTC is a good way to go, but doesn't necessarily guarantee you will get flight training. If you want to become a helicopter pilot, a good way to do it is to go Warrant Officer. You can apply for WOFT (warrant officer flight training) as a civilian & if selected will go to Basic Training, Warrant Officer Candidate School & Flight Training. This will guarantee your spot in the flight program.

Here is a link to check out, it goes over some requirements:

What can be done for pain from eye surgery?
Q. My 7 year old son had eye surgery today and I was instructed to give him tylenol or motrin for pain, but 2 hours later he is saying his eyes hurt. Should I apply warm or cold compresses? I am just asking for temporary advice from people who really know what to do. I will call tomorrow to find out what to do. Thanks in advance!

A. I would advise calling the hospital where the surgery was performed. There should be a doctor on call or they can reach your childs doctor.

Eyes are far to sensitive to take anyones advice unless they are a physician.

Best of luck to you!

Why can eye surgery possibly disqualify you from being a pilot in the military?
Q. I read today that getting eye surgery can possibly disqualify you from being a pilot. Does anybody know why??? I don't see why it's a problem.

A. A number of reasons.

1) It means you have less then perfect eyes. Not vision necessarily but eye problems are serious for a pilot and the military is not going to invest millions of dollars towards training for someone with faulty eyes that could go faulty again.

2) If you have had surgery then the eye is weaker at the point of the surgery and when you are working in an environment were you pull multiple G's and can potentially be placed into a non-pressurized environment there is always the very real possibility the eye could rupture.

Can i get laser eye surgery with a squint?
Q. I really want to get laser eye surgery. I am tired of having to wear glasses and contact lenses. 1) contact lenses don't give me crystal clear eyesight - there is still unclear sight 6.50+ in each eyes. 2) glasses give me perfect eyesight - but i don't want to wear them all my life. I need some advice on whether i can get laser eye surgery with a squint. I read somewhere that i can't but i want to no whether there is still a chance.

A. You can get Lasik done having Squint. It does not affect anything that would pose a risk for the procedure. You just need to find an Opthalmologist that has performed many procedures for hyperopia (farsightedness).
