Who has experience with lasik eye surgery and would like to tell me about it?

Q. How long does it last? Is the cost/last really worth it? Did it hurt afterwards? Anything else you want to tell me about it?

A. LASIK should last your whole life. if you would ever need an enhancement you could get one done. I had mine done at TLC Vision and I can go in if I ever need an enhancement done and they would do it for free (it all depends on who you get to do the surgery).

No hurt at all after I had it, they give you drops to put in your eyes and eye guards for at night so you don't scratch or rub them.

I could see as soon as I sat up on the operating table. They had me read the clock on the wall.

I would recommend this for anyone.

What is the average cost of lasik or PRK for your eyes?
Q. I want to have mine done and I went to a eye doctor today just to kinda check it out and all went well and they set up a plan for me to make payments and stuff but I was wondering if they are reasonable in the cost to do the procedure. Anyone have any idea as to the cost of this ? Thanks.

A. Hi, my name is Dr. Jay Lustbader, and I am an ophthalmologist with LasikPlus.
You will find that the cost of Lasik or PRK will vary from provider to provider. When comparing prices, there are several important factors to keep in mind. One is what technology you are getting for the price. Some surgeons offer all-laser Lasik, while others are still using a blade. Some surgeons offer custom wavefront treatments, others do not. You want to be sure you are getting the most up-to-date technology for the price you pay. A second consideration is whether the price includes coverage for enhancements, if an additional touch-up is needed in the future. Finally, in addition to price, you should consider the experience of the surgeon and the quality of the staff when deciding where to have the procedure done.
The best way to investigate these issues and to find out if Lasik is right for you is to have a thorough exam and consultation with a doctor. At LasikPlus, we provide a free comprehensive Lasik exam and consultation using the latest technology. I had lasik eye surgery in june to correct my nearsightedness. They told me it would take 3 months for my eyes ?
Q. to heal. Its now october and my eyes dont always work right. Like today i woke up and my left eye is blurry. This happens sometimes and its always my left eye. Is this normal or should i be worried?

A. It is not uncommon for the eyes to have increased dryness after Lasik. With that dryness can come blurred vision, especially if the cornea is extra sensitive. We always tell people that "technically" the eyes can take up to a year to really correct to the very best, but that at 3 months they are fairly stable. You may want to increase your use of artificial tears..Systane, Refresh or Genteal are all great products. Try using them at least 3-4 times a day. See if that helps the vision stay clearer. If not, I assume you are scheduled to go in for a 3 month check, so they should be able to tell you if the left eye needs a slight enhancement. Try the drops. As a Lasik provider and also a former Lasik patient, I can tell you that sometimes the drops are the simplest solution for the blurred vision.

Good luck.

How effective is lasik surgery?
Q. I am thinking about getting lasik surgery. I have been told that I am a good candidate by my eye doctor. But, I worry about the effectiveness. I have astigmatism and very dry eyes when I wear contacts. Any advice?

A. I had LASIK surgery when I was 20 years old and I am currently 24. And I have not worn contact lenses or glasses since the day of my surgery!

Personally, I have not known anyone to have anything but wonderful results from their LASIK surgery. However, it can happen that the surgeon (opthalmologist) under-corrects or over-corrects your eyes and you must have a second surgery called an enhancement to fix it. Overall, this is pretty rare though. Almost all LASIK surgeries are done by laser and are VERY precise.

If your eye doctor says you are a good candidate, that's great! It is very easy to correct astigmatism with LASIK as well.

I also had very dry eyes when I used to wear contacts. I was always told that one of the side effects from LASIK is that you will have dry eyes. However, I didn't have that side effect. My eyes felt just fine! So it really just depends on the person.

You will have other side effects such as glare and halos for about 6 months or so after the surgery, and your eyes may ache a little bit right after the surgery or you may feel like you have a piece of sand in your eye right after the surgery. But generally, everyone is totally pain-free the next day!

I actually saw 20/20 the next morning, right after my surgery! It was astonishing!

So I guess my advice ... go for it! It was WELL worth it for me. I love it!
