Can you get Lasik Eye Surgery at 18?

I don't like having wearing contact lenses or glasses so I want to get this procedure done.
Answer
In the United States it is recommend that only persons over the age of 18 receive Lasik or similar laser vision correction eye surgery. There are extreme cases of children receiving Lasik, but they are very, very rare.

I work for a nonprofit Lasik patient advocacy organization that evaluates and certifies Lasik doctors. We do not provide Lasik.
While age is an issue, what is much more important is if your eyes are stable. The changes made with Lasik are permanent, but your eyes will continue to change at the same rate after surgery as they did before surgery. You don't want to go through the trouble and expense of Lasik and then need it again in a couple of years. A good indication of stability is if you have had the same eye prescription for the past 2-3 years.
The only way you will know for sure would be to have a comprehensive examination by a competent eye doctor. You may want to see if there is a Lasik doctor near you who our organization has certified...

Has anyone gotten lasik eye surgery?
Q. I am seriously thinking of getting it as I have bad eye sight and especially at a young age.
I was told I have the same vision as someone who is 50 when I'm 22.
Can anyone tell me what their experience was like with lasik eye surgery if it hurt
how long it took, how much it was etc?
Thanks.

Answer
What you need to consider is: are you are OK with glasses or contacts (if they are working for you and you don't have a problem wearing them) why spend a huge amount of money and risk something going wrong? Most of the places that do it won't guarantee that you will never need glasses again. Many people have found out that after a few years they are nearsighted again and either have to get glasses or have the procedure re-done.
They said your vision was like you are 50, if you need bifocals and they do the laser surgery, you will still need reading glasses, so it will only eliminate half the problem!
