Lasik eye surgery?
southfromj
My dad who's worn bi-focals for 40+ years just had lasik eye surgery one year ago & doesn't need glasses anymore. I've been thinking of ditching my glasses & doing the same, but I'm extremely nervous. Is it painful? Will I be done with glasses? Is it very expensive? Will I be out of work for long? Is it ok that I have astigmatism?
Answer
I would definitely recommend having lasik done - just make sure you find a reputable surgeon in your area. They should all do free lasik consults for you to make sure you are a good candidate. Our clinic charges between 2800-4000 both eyes including all follow-up care a year after the surgery. It only takes about 8 minutes for the surgery to be complete. We only do it on Fridays so you are able to go back to work on the following Monday. It is not painful but you can have some slight discomfort/pressure during the precedure but only for a couple of seconds. And yes, it can be done if you have an astigmatism. But to be sure you are a good candidate, just schedule a free consult and get information on the surgeon and clinic. I have been working in optometry for 10 yrs and I had lasik done 2 yrs ago and absolutely love it. I was a -5.00 in both eyes so I had a lot of motivation. Good Luck and I hope this helps!!

I want to get lasik really bad. i am going in for checkup to see if i can next week. but i was wondering, if i get it, can i wear colored contacts. like right now i cant because i have a nearsighted astigastism in both eyes.
Answer
Once you have LASIK, you can't wear contacts for at least six months, as your cornea takes at LEAST that long to heal.
Why wear contacts if you get the surgery? The point is so that you don't HAVE to wear glasses or contacts? If you are doing it only for vanity purposes, talk to a different ophthalmologist, as I was able to wear contacts with near-sighted astigmatism in both eyes. They were special contacts that were beveled on top and bottom to keep my lids from moving them, and so they'd stay straight.
Stay away from the contacts, and let your natural eyes WOW the world!
