Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery in Canada and Age Requirement?

Chris

I was planning on getting lasik eye surgery because I've always had bad eyes (hate wearing contacts). I was wondering what the average cost is in Canada. Is it cheaper than other parts or more expensive?

Also is there a certain age you have to be?

Answer
Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hi I want to get laser eye surgery (I don't know any special medical terms but it's the kind when you just want to go from glasses to no glasses) what age do you need to be? and if you could add a price that'd be great.
Thanks.

Answer
LASIK in Australia costs between $5000-6000 for 2 eyes.
Usually it won't be done until you're prescription has stabilised - young people who are short sighted generally continue becoming more short sighted until about their mid-late twenties. Once this stops laser surgery will work wonders until you need reading glasses in your late forties. Really it depends on the individual though.

What is the minimum age to get Lasik or laser eye surgery?

Blake Camp

I live in North Carolina, I am thirteen years old and I want Lasik or laser eye correction. What is the minimum age? Can I get it younger with a parent signature?

Answer
Hi Blake - Patients can typically have the procedure starting at the age of 18 or 19. By this age the eyes have slowed or stopped changing so laser eye surgery can be performed safely. If you are 17 years old you could still be a candidate, but you’ll need parental consent. It’s important to remember that everyone is different, so you’ll still need to find out if you are a candidate. The best way to find out if you’re a candidate is to undergo a preoperative consultation. LASIK MD offers free consultations, so try and find a laser vision correction centre near you that offers this service for free.

I heard you shouldn't have the surgery until your body's completely finished growing, like age 23 or something. Is there a prime age for this surgery? If you get it in your 20s will you have to get it again in your 60s?

Answer
Hi Namsen – 90% of patients between the age of 18 and 65 who are either nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism, are excellent candidates for the procedure. So there really isn’t a “prime age” for LASIK. Patients can typically have the procedure starting at the age of 18. By this age the eyes are done growing and changing so laser eye surgery can be performed safely. If you are 17 years old you could still be a candidate, but you’ll need parental consent.

LASIK is a permanent procedure. For the vast majority of patients, one treatment is all they need to correct common refractive errors. However, LASIK will not prevent natural age-related regression within the eye like presbyopia, the common eye condition which requires most people in their 40s – even those who have had LASIK – to start wearing reading glasses.

How long does the recovery take after having a LASIK eye surgery?

Alex Rodri

Also, do you feel ANY sort of pain during recovery or during the surgery? Or any point in time?
How old do you have to be to have the surgery?

One more thing, im joining the Army when i get older and i dont want to have to use glasses in it cause im so fed up with them now even. They get dirty, having to clean them, they get foggy, cant see through them when it rains, etc. Will the Army pay for the surgery if i choose to get it done?

Answer
Hi Alex – Recovery for LASIK is very quick, as all LASIK patients notice an immediate improvement in their vision within hours of their treatment. The following day, vision is dramatically improved, and most patients can return to work within 24 hours.

With regard to pain, patients are given a topical anesthetic (eye drops) to numb the eye, so they experience no pain during the procedure. When the surgeon applies the vacuum ring, the patient experiences a sensation of slight pressure just before his or her vision fades away for a few seconds. Neither the precision flap-making instrument--nor the laser cause any pain or discomfort. For several hours after the procedure, many patients describe a mild "foreign body" sensation, such as after opening the eyes while swimming in chlorinated water. Some people feel as though there is a dirty contact lens in their eye. After the first few hours, this uncomfortable feeling usually subsides.

LASIK MD offers up to $200 off the procedure for Canadian Armed Forces personnel, so you may be able to find a laser vision correction provider in the US that offers a similar discount.

What is the approximate cost of lasik eye vision correction surgery?

Answer
Hi Ash - The cost of LASIK or PRK can vary from anywhere between $500 per eye to $2000 per eye, and there are multiple reasons for the large range in price. Typically, the cost for patients with high prescriptions, hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism is slightly higher than those with low or moderate myopia (nearsightedness). Technology is also a determining factor in the cost of the procedure. At LASIK MD, we offer Standard and Custom LASIK or PRK. Advanced Custom Wavefront offers better quality outcomes for those patients with high prescriptions, thin corneas and larger-than-average pupils. Custom LASIK requires technology that is costlier, and is therefore offered at a higher price.

The best way to find out if youâre a candidate is to undergo a preoperative consultation. LASIK MD offers free consultations, so try and find a laser vision correction centre near you that offers this service for free. LASIK MD also offers a Lowest Price Guarantee, so this is something else you may want to look for to ensure youâre getting the best price from your laser vision correction provider.

How long has lasik eye surgery been around?

Toby4

Also, since there is a flap made what happens to your eyes in say 30 or 40 years. Will there be side effects because the eye has been cut into?

Answer
It has been around just over 10 years in the US and Canada, but has been around for 20 years in Russia and England.

There have been no long term side effects registered yet.

Aside from those who had to have it redone because the myopia came back....or had to go back to glasses because the surgery couldn't be done a second time for different reasons.

Is it important to get a specific surgeon for LASIK eye surgery?

Q. I heard LASIK was safe for the most part. If I choose the wrong doctor though, do I get a bigger chance of "seeing spots" or going blind?

A. Hi Damien, the surgeon’s experience is important, because like all things, the more you do, the better you become. Laser vision correction is no exception. A surgeon’s specialized training and surgical experience are all very important. Look for a clinic that performs a lot of surgeries, because more procedures means more experience – and more experience means better results. Try to also find a centre that specializes in LASIK.

It’s also worth noting that it’s virtually impossible to go blind from LASIK.

Its been four week since my lasik eye surgery can i drink beer?
Q. Should I wait or is it okay? Any effects to my lasik?

A. Hi Mario – We recommend that people drink alcohol in moderation following their LASIK procedures. Drinking excessively can lead to dehydration, which can dry out your eyes and slow down the healing process.

Hope that helps,

Is there a way to permanently improve my eyesight?
Q. My left eye does not capture images as well as my right eye. What is Laser eye surgery? How does it work? Of coarse I will Google it but I am asking to target those who have had this done or to find out about other methods.

A. Laser eye surgery was the best gift I could of ever given myself. I work at a laser eye clinic in Niagara Falls Canada with owner and medical director Dr. Andrew Taylor. I watched miracles happen to people on a daily basis and I thought it's time I do the same for myself. The surgery was completely painless and Dr. Taylor and the staff put me at ease the whole time. I couldn't believe when I woke up the next morning I could SEE. Everything around me was so much brighter and clearer. It's been 12 years now since my surgery and I am still 20/20.

I can't stress enough to you that you should do this for yourself. Just make sure you reseach the surgeon and tecnology that the center offers.

At Lasik Provision where I work, laser vision correction is viewed as an art form and Dr. Taylor's has hand selected an experienced team of individuals who are constantly striving to provide the finest in all aspects of your experience including
 Excellent Service
 Unser pass Expertise
 Superior Technology
I hope that my efforts in guiding you through this process will allow you to see the value in making this advancement in yourself and your sight through this life changing procedure.
Your eyes are very precious and I know at our center we provide you with a level of care that exceeds your expectations. Life was not meant to be viewed through contacts and glasses life is about freedom instead of watching the world go by be a part of it.
This is a simple process that requires a preliminary eye exam and then surgery to follow. You will need to go back for follow up visits to make sure you are healing properly. Just promise me that you will do your research and this will be the best gift you can give yourself.
