Choosing a LASIK Surgeon

Choosing a qualified, licensed and experienced LASIK surgeon is important because you only have one set of eyes. It is important that you choose a doctor that you are comfortable with and that will thoroughly evalute your eyes and determine whether or not you are a good candidate for LASIK.

Investigate all claims that the surgery can be done cheaply and very carefully as in theory that is not really possible. Many offer a lower price for the procedure as a starting point but this should not be the only criteria you use when choosing a LASIK surgeon.

A qualified LASIK surgeon will:

* Be in practice for at least three years
* Have completed at least 500 procedures
* Have 90% of patients achieve 20/20 or 20/40 vision
* Be able to provide references from at least ten other patients
* Never had a problem with his or her license

After a consultation, never feel that you are obligated to use that surgeon. You are completely free to talk to other surgeons as well. Feel free to ask your LASIK surgeon about his credentials, his experience and any other concerns that you may have. Do not feel pressured to perform the procedure if you are not comfortable with your LASIK eye surgeon.
