Do you think it would be a bad idea for me to get Lasik?

Q. I'm 19 yrs old but my dad said that even when they gave him Lasik eye surgery then the doctors said his eyes are STILL changing even though he's 50 yrs old. Also, I have a humongous fear of blood and the thought of doing surgery on my eye in particular doesn't help. I tend to faint when I see a lot of blood.

A. There is no blood involved in Lasik surgery. I had it. I even had to go back a second time for some fine tuning. I am very squeemish about anything being done to my eyes. It was unpleasant but I made it through. I think your Dad wants you to wait till you are older and can pay for it yourself.

How much does Lasik eye surgery cost, what kinds of different surgeries are there, and anything else to know..?
Q. I really dont know a whole lot about the surgery, however it seems like a dream come true!
I do have an astigmatism in both eyes and my rx is -3.75 and -3.50 and actually got a little better this last check up.
I just want some information, some experience stories, or just anything you'd like to add
thanks

I want eye surgery to correct my vision will lasik eye surgery work for me?
Q. My left eye is -7.75 -50 x135 and my right eye is -8.00 can somebody tell me if lasik is right for me?

A. Technically, we can't determine that on-line; you would need to go to one of the places that does it and have them look at your eyes and make an evaluation if you are a suitable candidate; (most places will do the evaluation for free).

Typically, you need to be about 20ish or older and have had stable vision for at least a year (they want to make sure that once they do the procedure, your vision won't get worse and mess up the results). Your level of nearsightedness is pretty close to the limit of what they can correct for (the more correction they have to do, the more of your cornea they have to blast away with lasers, and they don't want it to be too thin to function properly).

You really want to choose the place where you get this procedure done very carefully, to minimize the chance that something will go wrong.

How much does laser eye surgery improve eyesight?
Q. I have 20/200 vision in my left eye and 20/50 in my right eye. How much would the surgery improve that, if you were to guess?

A. I'm not sure what my exact VA was before Lasik. I couldn't see the big E (20/400) with both eyes, I was counting fingers at about 10 feet max. Now I'm 20/15 in both eyes.

They'll check the thickness of your cornea before the procedure to see if they'll be able to take enough off to completely correct your vision.
