What do you think of Shobha Tandon, MD, PhD for Lasik Surgery? This is in Union City, CA.?

Q. Did you have a lasik surgery with her? Did she do a good job? Did you have to come back for corrections?

A. I do not know that doctor. I had my lasik done by Jay Bansal, M.D. I saw him in his Santa Rosa office, but he also practices at these addresses:

LaserVue
1174 Castro Street, Suite 112
Mountain View, California 94040

LaserVue
1700 California Street, Suite 280
San Francisco, California 94109

This was my experience with Dr. Bansal:

I was about 20/250 before Lasik surgery last year. The procedure was painless, probably due to the Valium they gave me. The ride home (as a passenger, of course) was fairly uncomfortable, mainly due to light sensitivity. The doctor gave me dark goggles, but the light was still too bright. I was in some pain once I got home (maybe 3 hours post procedure), but I had some left over Vicodin, and took two doses of that. The Vicodin took the edge off. Slept fine that night. Woke up the next morning, and I COULD SEE FINE! Hallelujah! I was jazzed up about that. I drove myself to my one day check up (an 2 hour round trip) with no problems. For that check up, I was seeing at 20/25, less than 24 hours after the surgery. I went to work that afternoon (doing ultrasound which really requires you to use your eyes). For my one week check up, I was seeing between 20/20 and 20/15. Other than the touch of pain I had post procedure, before I went to bed for the night, I had no other problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat! No more glasses, no more contacts, no more cleaning solutions and saline!

My advice would be to talk to everyone....talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers....you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident!

Just one other thing....I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you!

Any tips to keep our dog from bothering us at the table?
Q. (Shes tall enough to rest her nose on the table)

A. Begging -- 9 Tips to Table the Pleas

Your heart swells as your loyal, loving pet gazes up at you with those soft brown eyes. Then you notice the whining, the drooling and the unrelenting stare at your fork. This isn't about love. It's about your food -- she wants it, and she wants it now.

It's hard to ignore a good mooch, but if you give in, experts say, you'll never have a peaceful meal again. So be strong, hang onto your plate and follow these helpful hints.

For Dogs and Cats

Feed her first.

"If your dog or cat is really full, she just won't be as inspired to ask for more," says Kathryn Segura, who trains animals for television and movies and is owner of PHD Animals in Studio City, California.
Don't give in to guilt.

No matter how much she manipulates your emotions with those Oliver Twist eyes -- "Please, master, may I have some of yours?" -- remind yourself that your pet is already well-fed and doesn't need human food, says M. Lynne Kesel, D.V.M., assistant professor of elective surgery in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Fort Collins.
Make her leave for leftovers.

If you do decide to slip her a snack, don't do it from the table, Dr. Kesel adds. Otherwise your pet will begin confusing your mealtimes with hers. "If I'm eating something healthy and I can't finish it, at the end I'll put a little in their bowls," she says.
Lay down the law.

Usually just raising your voice will send your pet scurrying to another room. If that doesn't work, try honking a bike horn or rattling a shake can. "After a few times, they should get the message," says Gary Landsberg, D.V.M., a veterinarian in private practice in Thornhill, Ontario, who specializes in animal behavior.
To make a shake can, put some coins inside an empty soda can. Tape up the hole and you've got a noisemaker extraordinaire.

Say it with spray.

Cats can be incorrigible beggars, even jumping on tables and stealing food when you don't hand over a handout. And dogs aren't above trying some pretty pushy maneuvers themselves. To discourage such brazen behavior, surprise your pet with a blast from a spray bottle. The plastic bottle you use to spray plants will do nicely. Just aim for whatever part of your pet is handy, says Bob Gutierrez, animal behavior coordinator at the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Isolate the problem.

"When your dog or cat is driving you crazy, tell her ' No!' and calmly put her in another room and shut the door," says Dr. Landsberg. You may get complaints in the form of barking or meowing, but don't let her out until you're done eating. "Eventually she'll figure out that if she doesn't beg, she doesn't get sent away," says Dr. Landsberg.
Try a sticky solution.

Does your pet's begging repertoire include jumping up on kitchen counters? If so, try putting strips of double-sided tape in strategic spots. Then stand back and watch, says Gutierrez. "They hate the sensation of their paws getting a little stuck," he says. "They're unlikely to return, but just in case, buy an extra-big roll."
Give in -- just a little.

Some people love feeding their pet at the table and don't want to give it up entirely. As a compromise, try slipping her something healthy, like lettuce, suggests Myrna Milani, D.V.M., a veterinarian in private practice in Charlestown, New Hampshire, and author of The Body Language and Emotions of Cats and The Body Language and Emotions of Dogs. "If she doesn't like it, you've done your part -- and if she does, you're not loading her down with fattening food," she says.
For Dogs Only

Send her to school.

If your pooch's pleas are starting to peeve, why not try obedience school? Once you've both mastered the essential commands like "Stay!" and "Down!" you'll have peace in the family once again. "This way it's not a constant battle at the dinner table," says Dr. Landsberg.

How many presidents have been assasinated and how many presidents have been atempted to be assasinated?
Q.

A. A detailed history of the assassination and assassination attempts made on our presidents and presidential candidates over the years:

In 1835, President Andrew Jackson was leaving the funeral of a congressman at the capitol when a house painter by the name of Richard Lawrence fired two pistols at the president at close blank range. Miraculously, both guns misfired despite being in excellently prime condition. The prosecutor for the case was Francis Scott Key, who 21 years earlier wrote 'The Star Spangled Banner.'

On April 14, 1865, during a performance of 'Our American Cousin' at Ford's Theater, actor John Wilkes Booth mortally wounded President Abraham Lincoln. The 16th president died the following morning at 7:22am. He was 56 years old.

On July 2, 1881, while waiting for a train at the Washington, DC railroad station (to take him to his college class reunion) President James Abram Garfield was shot by a disappointed office seeker, Charles Julius Guiteau. Garfield died of his wounds on September 19, 1881. He was 49 years old.

On September 6, 1901, while attending the Pan-American Exposition, President William McKinley was shot by a crazed anarchist, Leon Czolgosz. McKinley died of his injuries on September 14, 1901. He was 58 years old.

While campaigning as a third party presidential candidate, Theodore Roosevelt, was shot en route to a campaign speaking engagement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 14, 1912. The former president was shot in the chest, but the manuscript of his speech and his eye glass case in his breast pocket slowed the bullet. Bleeding profusely, his aides immediately wanted to take him to
the hospital. Roosevelt, then age 53, said, "I will make this speech, or die." Only after he delivered his prepared remarks did he permit his aides to take him to the hospital.

On February 15, 1933, while riding in an open car in Miami, Florida, shots were fired at President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt, then age 51. Roosevelt escaped injury, but Chicago Mayor Anton Chermak was mortally wounded and died three weeks later.

On November 1, 1950, Puerto Rican nationalists tried to storm the then official Presidential residence Blair House (the White House was undergoing renovations). One White House police officer and one of the assailants were killed in the attempted assassination against President Harry S Truman, then age 66.

On November 22, 1963, while traveling in a motorcade, President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas. The 46 year old president was pronounced dead at Parkland Hospital.

On June 4, 1968, after claiming victory at the Los Angeles Hilton in the California Democratic Presidential Primary, US Senator Robert Francis Kennedy, D-NY, age 42, was shot by Sirhan Bishara Sirhan. Kennedy died on June 6, 1968.

On May 15, 1972, while campaigning in Laurel, Maryland for the state's Democratic Presidential Primary, Alabama Governor George Wallace, then age 53, was shot by Arthur Bremer. As a result of his injuries, Wallace was paralyzed for the rest of his life.

On September 5, 1975, in Sacramento, California, Charles Manson follower Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, then age 62. Ford escaped injury. Fromme was paroled just week.

On September 22, 1975, Sarah Jane Moore fired shots at President Gerald Ford in San Francisco. Fortunately, Ford escaped injury again, as a bystander pushed Moore's arm while she was pulling the trigger.
Moore was paroled in 2007.

On March 30, 1981, after leaving a speaking engagement in Washington, DC, President Ronald Reagan, then age 70, was shot by John Hinckley. The severity of Reagan's injuries was kept quiet at the time, but the President had to have emergency surgery. If the bullet had been even a fraction of an inch closer to his heart, the president would have died from his injuries. Presidential Press aide James Brady was paralyzed in the assassination attempt. Since then, Brady and his wife have been strong gun control advocates.
