What would you say is the most you would need to pay in order to get 100% no-fail LASER/LASIK surgery?

Q. I know generally nowadays that LASER/LASIK eye surgery is for the most part safe and effective, but just worried as there oculd always be that error of it potentially going wrong. What would you say then is the most one would have to pay to get guaranteed safe LASER/LASIK eye surgery?

A. Unfortunately, even money won't buy a 100% guarantee. Laser Surgery, like all other surgeries, has an element of risk. In the end, the people who perform the surgeries are just human, and they may make mistakes just like everybody else. Like you said - laser surgery has become a very safe practice, and generally, errors don't happen. Despite this, I understand your concern, and I think it is so commendable that preserving the previous gift of sight (rather than cost), is your main focus.

If you are particularly concerned about surgery, you could try non-surgical options such as Orthokeratology to reduce your myopia. Otherwise, the very best advice I can give you is to choose a reputable place to get your laser surgery done. Ask about how many (successful) laser surgeries have been performed by the clinic/doctor, and be sure you are a very good candidate before going in. Be wary of deals (e.g. $490/eye) - if the offer is too good to be true, it probably is. Sight is one of our most precious gifts, so choose a place which is most likely to preserve it and enhance it.

My friend is having eye surgery tomorrow, what is a good gift?
Q. my friend is having eye surgery tomorrow so what is a good gift besides flowers because im already getting her that! :)

A. A teddy bear to play with or a mini board game something..
It would be more better if you gift eye glasses which she can use after the surgery..

Can I deduct medical expenses paid by someone else?
Q. My spouse had 2 laser eye surgeries to restore his vision that were paid for by his mother. She says that I can deduct the cost on our taxes, but I believe she's wrong since she paid. My spouse cannot be claimed as a dependent on her taxes either, so she can't use the deduction.

A. You are correct in that you must have paid for your (or your spouse's) medical expenses, yourself, in order to get the deduction.

Next time, when Mom is so gracious to help out, have her make a gift-tax-free gift to you, and you pay the tax deductible expense!

What are some good gift ideas for a 11-yr old confined to bed rest?
Q. My eleven year old cousin will be confined to bed rest for five weeks following major back surgery tomorrow. I'm looking for toys and games that could entertain her without her having to get up (the most she'll be able to do sitting-wise will be lifting her head and shoulders). She is interested in brainy things-- games that make her think logically and figure things out. Games without little pieces are prefferred.

Thanks!

A. I would say something like Bop It and Bop It Extreme, things of that nature. You could play that while lying down. It has a fun beat and music , tests your hand and eye coordination and will keep her occupied! Just an idea though! Or the handheld poker games, yahtzee, wheel of fortune etc. All of which you can find on the game aisle at wal-mart.
