Considering Lasik Eye Surgery.?

Dread

I was wondering if it is worth the risk and cost. I live in an area where there is top-of-the-line medical care.

My eyes are pretty decent. I don't know my eye prescription, the best I can describe it is that I need glasses to see signs and fine details (such as details of faces) at a distance. I mostly use my glasses in class and while driving.
My eye doctor defines my prescription as "moderate or even light"

My main concern is that my eye doctor tells me my vision might be nearsighted because of excessive computer exposure, really. So does that mean if I get eye surgery and continue to play computer games, my vision will degrade back down to what it is now?

My other concern is that I suffered an eye injury at a relatively young age (~14 years old) to my left eye. A stick hit me in the eye, scratched my cornea, I went to the hospital and they took the bark out and I had an eyepatch for about a month. I still notice some minor repercussions from it, my left eye occasionally "pulsates" just a little bit and my vision in that eye is worse.

My final concern is that my eyes tend to be slightly bloodshot and dry normally. It's usually not too bad, but there is always a bit of redness. I heard that lazer eye surgery tends to make your eyes dryer. Is that true?
Will that factor into lazer eye surgery?

Thanks for answers.

Answer
I am not an Ophthalmologist, but I do work for one. The best thing to do is to schedule a Lasik Consult with the doctor of your choice. The majority offer free consultations. It is best to discuss all these options with him/her. They will then determine if you are even a candidate for Lasik and all the risks involved with it.
I highly doubt that dry eyes would be a problem, depending on the severity of your dry eyes. There are many different options for treating dry eyes. Artificial tears, different prescription drugs, or punctal plugs. He/she can also discuss this with you.
If you wear contact lenses, you must be out of your contacts 5-7 prior to the consultation for this can effect the determination if you are a candidate or not.

Hope this helps! Best of luck.

Do you think Lasik eye surgery to make you see the baseball better is cheating ???

What is the difference from taking HGH or Steriods. As for as I am concerned it is all cheating.
You do what it takes to make money or to make a profit (to be a better player when you are not as gifted than most) that is the era that we live in.

Answer
I think the difference is that Lasik is a common medical practice. If you got surgery to improve your vision to abnormally good levels that would be one thing, but doing that is technically difficult due to the architecture of the eye.

There is also the question of effects: such eye surgeries don't improve your vision beyond what contact lenses would do, and banning contacts would send a huge chunk of MLB players out of the game.
