How much does lasik eye surgery cost?

Ibanez

What is the approximate cost of lasik eye vision correction surgery?

Answer
Hi Ash - The cost of LASIK or PRK can vary from anywhere between $500 per eye to $2000 per eye, and there are multiple reasons for the large range in price. Typically, the cost for patients with high prescriptions, hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism is slightly higher than those with low or moderate myopia (nearsightedness). Technology is also a determining factor in the cost of the procedure. At LASIK MD, we offer Standard and Custom LASIK or PRK. Advanced Custom Wavefront offers better quality outcomes for those patients with high prescriptions, thin corneas and larger-than-average pupils. Custom LASIK requires technology that is costlier, and is therefore offered at a higher price.

The best way to find out if youâre a candidate is to undergo a preoperative consultation. LASIK MD offers free consultations, so try and find a laser vision correction centre near you that offers this service for free. LASIK MD also offers a Lowest Price Guarantee, so this is something else you may want to look for to ensure youâre getting the best price from your laser vision correction provider.

Hope that helps,

Has anyone had lasik eye surgery or know someone who did? Could you share some of you experiences? How much does it cost and what are its pros and cons? Where would be the best and safest place to have this procedure? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
I haven't had LASIK, but have recently completed a research project on it.

Average cost in 2006: $2,052 per procedure

Cost is higher for custom/wavefront LASIK ($250-500 more per eye) and for LASIK with intraLASE ($250-300 more per eye) than in conventional LASIK.

Conventional LASIK uses a small surgical instrument to create a flap in your cornea, and then a laser shoots pulses of UV light at the deep portion of the cornea, reshaping it to produce a better focus. LASIK with intraLASE uses a computer-controlled laser than conventional LASIK to produce the flap. LASIK with intraLASE is more precise, creates a thinner flap, and is better for people with very steep or thin corneas or large amounts of astigmatism. LASIK with intraLASE also has a higher success rate than conventional LASIK, but is more expensive. Custom or wavefront LASIK takes a computerized map of your eye to produce a more "custom" LASIK experience. Custom/wavefront LASIK decreases your chances of permanent dry eye or visual aberrations.

About 5% of LASIK patients experience glare, starbursts, haloes, decrease in visual contrast, and double vision (permanently) after LASIK. About 95% achieve 20/40 vision, meaning that they can see well enough after LASIK to drive without glasses or contacts. 75-85% reach 20/20. These numbers are higher for LASIK with intraLASE than conventional LASIK.

Pros: better appearance, no more hassle and cost of glasses, easier to participate in sports

Cons: possible side effects like glare, haloes, etc. (discussed above) and cost

The doctor is the MOST important factor in making a decision about LASIK, because it's the doctor's experience that counts. Choose a reputable doctor who has performed numerous LASIK surgeries, specifically the type of LASIK you intend to get. Consult your doctor to determine whether or not you might be a good candidate, but in general to be a good candidate you should be over 18, have a stable prescription for at least 2 years before the surgery, and not have any autoimmune diseases or be taking any medications that decrease your eyes' healing response.

Best of luck with your decision! Here are some links for further information:

How much would it cost to have LASIK eye surgery for someone with astigmatism?

raquel

Answer
For HD LASIK you're looking at about 3,000 if you choose a quality surgeon. The main problem patients have when selecting a budget LASIK deal is that a device called a Keratome is used to cut the corneal flap instead of using a laser beam. The result is dry eyes for the remainder of your life. I hope this helps.

Have you had lasik eye surgery? If so how much did it cost? i have astigmatism in both eyes and im curious?

coolestguy

Answer
25% savings is not worth not being able to have your required checkups and a guarantee!!!

I had my lasik in December and I am very happy with it. I also went to a local place that had the best reputation and the most up to date laser. (Allegretto) I had a double astigmatism in one eye and regular astigmatism in the other. Both of my eyes are doing great and it was worth every penny. I think Lasik is MOST beneficial for people with astigmatism because contacts are so difficult when you have that! I paid $2000 per eye. They offer a lifetime guarantee that if my vision ever goes below 20/40 I get an adjustment and if my vision wasn't at least 20/25, I would have gotten a refund.

I'm 20 years old and my eyesight is really bad (probably from all the years of video games, tv, and surfing the internet). I've decided to limit my time spent on these activities, but what I want to know is if there's a way to improve your eyesight without the use of glasses or contacts?

Also, I've heard from someone that people with astigmatism can't get that eye restoration surgery. Is that true? Not that I can afford it right now anyway, I just want to know my options later on.

Answer
There is no natural way to Improve eye sight. Dont fall for the advertising gimmicks.
Lasik works well for people with astigmatism.

Lasik is relatively a very safe procedure which has been performed for nearly a decade. The technology has advanced so much that its now possible to predict the outcome even before laser is done. The pre op Diagnostic Procedures are called as orbscan and abberometry.

Lasik procedure takes just 10 mins for both the eyes and you can resume normal activities within 24 hrs.

The only disadvantage is the cost of the procedure , but this can be over come when u have the procedure done in countries like India which have very good laser centers and Ophthalmologists.

Eye care tourism is becoming very popular and u can save a lot of money.

I've been wanting lasik eye surgery for a long while now coz I'm so sick of contacts and glasses. Is there monthly payments or payment in full? And will getting lasik get rid of astigmatism, or lazy eyes as well??

Answer
Mine was about $2K per eye. But it depends on the method of surgery, the extensiveness of corrective work needed, and the doctor you use.
Most places have financing available. I think it can help astigmatism, but I don't know about lazy eye. Consultations are usually free of charge so be sure to visit a few doctors to find the one that's best for you.

These are your eyes, you don't want to bargain shop, and the price is worth it.

How much would LASIK eye surgery cost in KC, Missouri?

Q. I have had one bad eye since I was born and last year I went to the eye doctor because I couldn't see out of my good eye and they said I have Astigmatisms in both eyes.

Now it feels like my eyes are getting way worse (blurry) and I'm scared and have been scared of going blind. I got glasses but their glarey and hurt my eyes too much.

I'm really considering eye surgery. Do they allow you to make payments? How long does it take? And how do I know if I'm going to a good surgen or not?

A. There are # methods available for Lasik surgery
1. Standard Lasik.
2. Custom Lasik.
3. Intralase Lasik.

But for you 2 and 3 method will be good as you have mentioned that you have bad eye. CUstom and Intralase gives you halos and glare free vision in night. Difference between Intralase and Custom is in Intralase blade is not used. It is bladeless surgery . The cost of Intralase is $2499 for both eyes and Cost of Custom $1399 for both eyes.

A. Lasik isn't covered by any insurance.

In most places it runs between $1200.00 and $1500.00 per eye.

How much did you pay for Lasik eye surgery?

Q. Also did you have an astigmatism that was properly corrected?
The reason I'm asking is that I just saw a web advert that claims a "starting price" of $299 / eye.

A. I would stay away from anyone that offers LASIK for $299 an eye. Two reasons: A. you don't want to end up looking like a pirate for the rest of your life, and B. uh, they're cutting your eye open for only $300. Something about that scares the crap out of me.

I had mine on Tuesday, January 2. I paid $3800 for Custom LASIK for both eyes. I had no circumstances (thin cornea, astigmatism, or extremely poor vision) that would increase the cost. I priced out three other local places in Omaha, and they wre $4000, $3200 and $3000. The latter two had blades to cut the flap, and I wanted no part of a blade.

Hope all that helps you make your decision. I would definitely check to see if your health insurance offers any kind of discount, or if you have a flex benefit plan at your work. I paid pre-tax dollars so that saved quite a bit. Best of luck on a clearer 2007!

In Texas Houston, who do you recommend for lasik vision correction for minor astigmatism?
Q. In Texas Houston, who do you recommend for lasik vision correction for astigmatism? What is the approximate cost? What other things should I be aware about with this procedure and choosing a doctor?

A. Its expensive, some insurance agencies do not cover it because they consider it a cosmetic procedure or some other excuse. lasik vision is not permanent, after awhile you must go through it again to keep the correction. LASIK is performed in three steps. The first step is to create a flap of corneal tissue. The second step is remodeling of the cornea underneath the flap with the laser. Finally, the flap is repositioned. A corneal suction ring is applied to the eye, holding the eye in place. This step in the procedure can sometimes cause small blood vessels to burst, resulting in bleeding or hemorrhage into the white of the eye,Some patients with poor outcomes from LASIK surgical procedures report a significantly reduced quality of life because of vision problems or physical pain associated with the surgery. it is possible to have a long list of complications during or after the procedure.
some of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK:

* Surgery induced dry eyes
* Overcorrection or undercorrection
* Very Low level vitamin D - Sun sensitivity
* Visual acuity fluctuation
* Halos or starbursts around light sources at night
* Light sensitivity
* Ghost images or double vision
* Wrinkles in flap
* Decentered ablation
* Debris or growth under flap
* Thin or buttonhole flap
* Induced astigmatism
* Corneal Ectasia
* Floaters
* Epithelium erosion
* Posterior vitreous detachment
* Macular hole

Ah, I wouldn't do it.
